SDG 5
GENDER EQUALITY
Over the past decades, many African countries have made notable progress in advancing women’s rights.
Most visibly through constitutional reforms, the adoption of gender quotas in politics, and expanded access to education for girls.
Despite these achievements, progress remains uneven across the continent.
While significant strides have been made, VEF believes that sustainable advancement requires a holistic approach, one that combines stronger enforcement of laws, robust legal protections, economic empowerment initiatives, grassroots sensitisation campaigns, and stronger political will. Advancing women’s rights is not only a matter of social justice but also a critical driver of Africa’s broader socioeconomic development and democratic consolidation.
Through VEF community engagement efforts, particularly in rural areas, we aim to empower women by expanding access to wealth-creation initiatives, financial sustainability, collaborating with financial institutions, human rights advocates, legal practitioners and policymakers to ensure women’s perspectives are included in the discussions on growth, peace and protection.
