SDG 2

ZERO HUNGER

Hunger remains a persistent global crisis, affecting millions of people worldwide. According to the United Nations, nearly (673 million) people faced hunger in 2024.

Representing (8.3%) of the global population, with a significant increase observed in Africa. Approximately (282 million) people in Africa suffer from chronic malnourishment,

accounting for nearly( 20% )of the world’s hungry population.

Despite technological advancements and improvements in agricultural production, ensuring sufficient and equitable access to food for all remains a daunting challenge. However, a shift toward a community-based approach is both necessary and urgent.

In alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: Zero Hunger, VEF’s humanitarian community outreach program aims to support underserved communities through a systematic and inclusive strategy.

This approach focuses on community sensitisation, which involves educating communities on nutrition, sustainable agriculture, and effective resource management.

The program also includes training sessions that blend modern and traditional farming techniques, support for small-scale farmers through improved access to quality seeds,
and the promotion of sustainable farming practices that enhance soil health. Additionally, the establishment of food banks and storage facilities will help reduce post-harvest losses and improve food security.
